What is Online Photoshop?

Online Photoshop is a free photo editor that works inside your web browser. It gives you the workspace you know from desktop Photoshop, with a toolbar on the left, a layers panel on the right and the familiar menus at the top, but you do not install anything and you do not pay for a subscription. Open this page, press Start editing and the editor is ready to use.

The editor opens the same files as Adobe Photoshop. Drop a PSD onto the canvas and every layer, mask, text layer and smart object is kept exactly as it was saved. You can also open XCF files from GIMP, Sketch and Figma exports, Adobe Illustrator and PDF documents, and camera RAW photos from Canon, Nikon, Sony and other brands.

Free Photoshop online is built for people who need to get a job done quickly: crop a picture for a listing, remove a background, add text to a banner, resize a photo for a profile, or fix the colours on a picture before you post it. It is equally at home with bigger jobs, such as retouching a portrait or building a multi-layer design, because it has the full set of selection, brush, adjustment and filter tools.

Everything runs on your own computer inside the browser tab. Your pictures are processed locally and are not uploaded to our server, so you keep control of your files at every step.

Common jobs, done in a minute

Short guides for the things people open Photoshop online for most often.

01

Remove a background

Open the photo, pick the Magic Wand or Quick Selection tool, click the background, invert the selection with Ctrl+Shift+I and add a layer mask. Export as PNG to keep the transparency.

02

Resize a photo

Go to Image, then Image Size, type the new width or height and keep the chain icon on so the proportions stay the same. Use File, Export As, JPG for a small file.

03

Add text to a picture

Press T, click on the canvas and type. Change the font, size and colour in the top bar. Text stays editable as its own layer until you flatten the image.

04

Crop and straighten

Press C for the Crop tool, drag the corners, and drag outside the frame to rotate. Press Enter to apply. Use a preset ratio such as 1:1 or 16:9 for social posts.

05

Convert PSD to JPG or PNG

Open the PSD, then choose File, Export As and pick JPG, PNG or WebP. Layers are flattened in the export only; the PSD stays untouched.

06

Fix brightness and colour

Add a Curves or Levels adjustment layer from the Layer menu, drag the curve, then fine-tune with Hue/Saturation. Adjustment layers can be switched off or edited later.

Why people choose Photoshop online

Students and teachers use it on school computers where nothing can be installed. Small business owners edit product photos for their shop without paying for software they open twice a month. Designers use it as a quick second screen to check a PSD on a laptop that does not have Photoshop. Social media managers crop, caption and export a whole week of posts from one tab.

The editor is a good fit for older or low-power computers too. Because it runs in the browser, it does not need the memory and disk space a desktop installation asks for, and it starts in seconds rather than minutes.

It is also a safe place to learn. If you are new to layers, masks or selections, the workspace is laid out the same way as the desktop program, so any Photoshop tutorial you follow will make sense here. Nothing you try can break your computer, and there is no trial period counting down.

Questions people ask

Is Online Photoshop really free?

Yes. Every tool on this page is free to use with no time limit and no watermark on your exports. The site is supported by a small number of ads.

Is this made by Adobe?

No. Photoshop is a trademark of Adobe Inc. This site is an independent browser-based editor that opens and saves the same file types. It is not affiliated with Adobe in any way.

Can I open and save PSD files?

Yes. Layers, layer masks, text layers, smart objects and adjustment layers are kept when you open a PSD and when you save back to PSD.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes, in Chrome or Safari on Android and iPhone. The panels are smaller on a phone, so a tablet or desktop is more comfortable for longer jobs.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Press Start editing and the editor opens. There is nothing to sign up for and no email is asked for.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The editor runs inside your browser and your files stay on your device. When you save, the file is written straight to your downloads folder.

Which browsers are supported?

Any recent version of Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, Opera or Brave on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android or iOS.

Can I use Photoshop online offline?

The editor needs an internet connection to load. Once it is open you can keep working if the connection drops, but reload the page only when you are back online.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit. Very large documents with many layers depend on the memory of your device, so a desktop computer will handle a 200 MB PSD more comfortably than a phone.
